Incorporating Massage Into Your
Wellness Plan
Massage therapy can be used in
conjunction with many of your other
wellness practices to compliment and
enhance their effectiveness. Acute
and chronic conditions can often be
improved through massage, including
headaches, joint pain, anxiety,
strains & sprains, carpal tunnel
syndrome, neck stiffness, post
traumatic stress, shin splints,
fibromyalgia, TMJ disorders, plantar
fasciatis, and many others. Consider
asking if massage would be a
beneficial addition to your
treatment plan.
-
Combine a Chiropractic
adjustment with massage to
release restrictions, help an
adjustment “hold” longer, and
retrain muscles that may be
chronically pulling you out of
alignment
-
Add massage to your Physical
Therapy sessions to increase
passive and active range of
motion and relieve secondary
pain that may be outlasting its
original cause
-
Visit both the acupuncturist and
a massage therapist to balance
the function of muscles and
harmonize the mind, body and
spirit
-
Insert massage as part of your
pain management regime to bring
focus to the entire body system,
not solely at the site of your
pain, to release tension, and to
interrupt pain cycles
How You Can Benefit From Massage
Massage therapy has been shown to be
effective in reducing stress and to
help manage or relieve both specific
and generalized pain.
-
Sooth chronic discomfort
associated with arthritis,
carpal tunnel syndrome,
fibromyalgia, and sports
injuries
-
Reduce anxiety, lower blood
pressure, and increase
circulation
-
Lessen the stress response
caused by work, family, school,
traumatic events, and other
emotional situations
-
Decrease headache frequency and
duration
-
Speed healing of musculoskeletal
injuries caused by car
accidents, falls, overexertion,
surgery, sprains, and strains

Massage Styles
Relaxation Massage:
Commonly referred to as Swedish
massage, this type of session
incorporates fluid strokes,
kneading, pressing and stretching.
The intention is to relieve overall
muscle tension while addressing
physical and mental stress.
Relaxation massage is an excellent
opportunity to unwind and reconnect
with your body, mind and spirit.
Regular sessions of relaxation
massage are a perfect addition to
your overall wellness plan.
Therapeutic Massage:
A
combination of Deep Tissue and
Swedish techniques, this massage
concentrates on physical relaxation
of the muscles and connective
tissues. With a focus on areas of
tension or pain, these sessions can
produce significant changes in range
of motion, areas of injury or scar
tissue, postural imbalances, and
headaches. Therapeutic massage is
known to speed healing, improve
circulation and release restrictions
in your physical body, making it a
valuable tool for maintaining your
health.
Sports Massage:
Helping serious athletes and weekend
warriors alike to maintain their
bodies in optimal condition for
performance, recover more quickly
from big events, lessen the chance
of injury and function well during
training is the primary goal of
sports massage. It can prolong the
length of time you can maintain an
active lifestyle or extend a
sporting career. Sports massage can
be helpful pre-event to warm up
muscles, post-event to normalize
tissues and reduce delayed muscle
soreness, during training cycles to
decrease the risk of injury, and as
rehabilitation should injury occur.
Chair Massage:
While
you are supported by a specially
designed “chair”, your therapist
uses kneading, pressing and
stretching techniques to reach and
release areas of tension. Chair
massage is a quick and easy way to
ease your aches and pains or to feel
energized and refreshed in just a
few minutes.
Additional Therapies
Aromatherapy:
The
intent of this ancient healing art
is to utilize the therapeutic
properties of essential oils made
from herbs, flowers and other
plants. We use only the highest
quality essential oils in their
appropriate quantity, upon request,
to add their healing benefits and
fragrance to your treatments. Oils
may either be added to the massage
crème or diffused into the air.
Ear
Candling: The technique of
inserting a burning cone of waxed
cloth in the ear as a health care
modality dates back to ancient
civilizations in Egypt, the Orient,
as well as North and South America.
Ear candling can act as a catalyst
to clear out debris from nerve
endings, allowing clear vibrational
flow to corresponding areas of the
body, mind & spirit. More subtle
changes may occur on an energetic
level, resulting in greater
emotional stability and an overall
sense of well-being. Positive
Results reported with ear candling
include:
-
softening and break up of ear
wax
-
reduced allergy, cold and flu
symptoms
-
less congestion, sinus pressure
and ear aches
-
improvement of ringing in the
ears or tinnitus
-
decreased TMJ pain and headaches
-
sharpened hearing, vision,
smell, taste, vision, color
perception, and mental
functioning
Myofascial and Trigger Point
Therapy:
The
musculoskeletal system is held
together by connective tissue called
fascia, which is very densely woven,
covering and interlaced between
every muscle, bone and joint. When
this tissue and the muscles it
contains develop restrictions caused
by chronic tension, posture, injury,
or repetitive motions, it can result
in trigger points. These areas may
refer pain to other parts of the
body when pressed. Using friction,
vibration and sustained pressure on
these specific areas can release the
muscle and fascia fibers.
Reiki: (Ray-key)
Practitioners of this powerful
hands-on healing technique are
trained (attuned) to channel
Universal Life Force Energy. A
gentle, nurturing method of
bodywork, it is used to promote
wellness at the physical, emotional
and spiritual levels. Reiki can
alleviate pain, provide relief from
anxiety, promote restful sleep,
increase your sense of well being,
and enhance your body’s natural
healing ability. A Reiki treatment
can be a stand-alone session or
integrated with table or chair
massage.
