LYMPHEDEMA THERAPY

AMS offers specialized care in the treatment of Lymphedema.  Lymphedema is an accumulation of lymphatic fluid in the interstitial tissue that causes swelling, most often in the arm(s) and or leg(s), and occasionally in other parts of the body.  Lymphedema can develop for many reasons.  Commonly associated with cancer treatment, it can be a result of the disease process or an adverse effect of the necessary medical treatment.

No cure for lymphedema exists. But lymphedema can be controlled.

At AMS, each patient receives an individualized rehabilitation program to prevent further progression of lymphedema.  A Certified Lymphedema Therapist, with referral from your Primary Care Physician will evaluate and initiate, as appropriate, a Complete Decongestive Therapy Program, including:

  • Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) – a gentle, hands on Lymphatic massage technique

  • Compression Therapy

  • Decongestive Exercises

  • Meticulous Nail and Skin Care, with emphasis on patient education and self care
