Albert Ruenes, Jr.
was born December 4th 1961 in Glen Cove, New York. He
grew up on Long Island, attended its public schools and
spent his summers at the beach and nights cooking and
waiting tables at area restaurants. He attended
undergraduate school at the College of William and Mary
in Williamsburg, Virginia. He worked three years there
as a Resident Assistant and graduated Phi Beta Kappa in
1984. He returned to New York to enroll at Columbia
University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons and
earned his MD degree in 1988, the year he served as
class president and co-founder of a mentor program for
the underprivileged young men in Spanish Harlem. That
summer he married his wife, Cindy, and together they
moved to Durham, North Carolina where he began his
six-year surgical residency at Duke University. It was
there that his son, Chris and daughter, Jenny were born.
His young family came to Doylestown in 1994 so Dr.
Ruenes could join his friend and colleague, Steven
Flashner, MD., in practice at Central Bucks Urology. He
has been there since, and this "Top Doctor" volunteers
at Doylestown Hospital’s Free Clinic and teaches
prostate cancer surgery overseas to surgeons of third
world countries. He has a special interest in urologic
oncology.
Dr. Ruenes came to explore the virtues of integrative
medicine for two reasons. First, after a short time in
private practice he realized that his allopathic tool
chest lacked the ability to treat some common, chronic
urologic maladies. Second, at age seven years, his son
developed insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. It became
clear to him that his son’s long-term health depended
not only on a regimen of frequent testing, medication
and doctors visits, but also on a holistic,
patient-centered approach to wellness.
Dr. Ruenes is a founding partner of Advanced Medical
Solutions and oversees its cancer program.
